Moreover, few studies also indicate that these purrs can help in healing wounds or broken bones on their body. But there has been no conclusive proof, and the research continues.

Endorphins

The general thought that appears in everyone’s mind when a cat purrs is that the cat is happy. This happy state of mind enables the production of endorphins, which is believed to have a ripple effect on humans as well.

In simpler words; when cats purr, you smile! 🙂 😀

Scientific researches state that it can help with lowering blood pressure, as well as lessen the chances of incurring heart diseases.

Some cats might suffer from this medical condition called Dyspnea, which deals with breathing difficulties.

Veterinary doctors generally suggest that the cats’ purr will help with their medical condition. The same effect can also be applied to the cat-owners if they are suffering from dyspnea.

Hence, their purrs contain healing properties wherein both the cat and the cat owners can get benefited.

Why Cats Purr Constantly

There are various reasons and situations that might instigate the cats to purr continuously. Just like how humans cry or laugh to express their emotions, cats purr to express theirs. Here are some situations listed down wherein the cats would purr constantly.

When the Cats are Stressed

Purring will calm them down as it releases endorphins from the brain. It will ease down their anxiety and stress immediately and will help them in feeling better instantly

When Cats Want Attention

Sometimes cats purr to grab the attention of their owners. It is a well-known fact that both cats and kittens are attention-seekers and require undivided focus from their owners.

To Express Happiness

When the cats are contended from someone or something, like when eating their favourite food, or when they get rubbed on their head, they purr to express their happiness. It is a sign of satisfaction and encouragement to keep going.

When Cats are Healing

Cats’ purr is known for its healing properties, which can better the condition, in case of a broken bone, or a wound.

Where Does Cat Purr Come From?

Some conclusive studies stated that the origin of the cat’s purr was the cats’ brain. The repetitive brain waves will transmit messages to the laryngeal muscles, which cause some fluctuations and twitches at the frequency of 25 to 150 vibrations per second (Hz). It will result in the vocal cords separating while inhaling and exhaling, and in that process, a purr will emerge.

This is also the reason why big cats like lions, leopards and jaguars cannot purr – a length of tough cartilage runs up the hyoid bones to the skull.

Conclusion

By paying close attention to cats, their owners can determine their cats’ behaviour and emotions, which will be handy in difficult situations.

Also, nobody knows for certain why smaller cats developed the ability to purr while larger cats like lions and tigers did not. Nevertheless, as long as it brings a smile on our faces and makes for great Instagram videos, we have no complaints! 😉
