Adoption Process
How adoption works at iAdopt
We keep the process thoughtful on purpose. Good matches last. Rushed ones often don't — for the animal or for the family. Here's exactly what to expect from first enquiry to handover.

Our active adoptable list lives on Instagram (@iadopt.in). Scroll through to see who is currently looking for a home, with photos, age, and a short personality note.
Fill the right application form
Dogs and cats have separate forms. We ask about your home, lifestyle, schedule, and what kind of animal fits you. There are no trick questions — just be honest.
Get shortlisted
If your application looks like a good fit for the animal you've chosen, we'll get in touch. Not every application leads to an adoption, and that's by design — we place for fit, not speed.
Meet the pet
Most meet-and-greets happen at the foster's place so you see the animal in their current environment. We walk you through temperament, medical history, and care needs.
Home check and handover
Once approved, we do a final safety check and guide you through a calm, supported transition. We help with the first few days and stay reachable through the adjustment period.
Post-adoption support
Adoption doesn't end at handover. We follow up, answer questions, and stay available if challenges come up. You're not on your own after signing the form.
What we look for
What makes a strong adoption application
We don't score for wealth, property type, or lifestyle prestige. We look for honesty, readiness, and match quality.
- Honest lifestyle picture. Your actual schedule, who lives with you, your level of experience, and what you can realistically commit to.
- A suitable home environment. Doesn't have to be large — it has to be safe, stable, and appropriate for the specific animal.
- Openness to guidance. Especially for first-time adopters. We'll help, but you need to be willing to take that help.
- Long-term commitment. Adoption is a life decision. We're looking for people who understand what that means and mean it.
Timeline to expect
- Application reviewed within 3–5 working days
- Follow-up call or chat within a week of shortlisting
- Meet with animal arranged at mutual convenience
- Home check + final approval takes 3–7 days
- Handover scheduled with full transition support
Reasons an application may not proceed
Applications are declined when there's a mismatch between what's needed for the animal and what the home can provide — not to gatekeep. We'll always explain our reasoning and remain open to re-applications if circumstances change.
